Random Facts About Krystal

I’m one of those quirky, super-introverted, stereotypical designer folks that’s in legit danger of becoming a hermit.

For the personality junkies like myself, I’m a classic INFP personality and a 4w5. If you have no idea what the heck I’m talking about here, you should totally go find out what your Myers-Briggs personality type is. If you already know, be sure to tell me the next time we talk!

I love my essential oils and diffuser. A blend of citrus (sweet orange, lemon and grapefruit), ginger and peppermint is my go to while I’m working.

I have recently developed a green thumb after spending my whole life as a plant murderer with the best intentions. I’m not sure what changed but I love my healthy, thriving plants.

People I’ve never met or even seen before will walk up to me in public and tell me all of their problems like they’ve known me forever. I’m not sure why it happens, I’ve never been able to figure that out, but it’s been happening my entire adult life. It’s not that I mind, I actually feel grateful that they felt comfortable enough to tell me what they do and I hope they feel better for having said it to someone.

I’m learning to read/write and speak Japanese in spare moments. I’m not sure if I’ll ever achieve fluency but I’m having fun learning and that’s the most important thing for me.

I soak up the emotions and energy of those around me like I’m a sponge. If you’re sad, I’m sad. If you’re excited, I’m excited too. If someone is feeling off, I may not know why, but I feel it. Being so sensitive makes me quite empathetic, maybe even intuitive, but it can also be totally exhausting to feel so much all the time. Blessing and a curse, I guess.

I feel most inspired when I’ve spent a good chunk of time outdoors in the fresh air. I walk 5km pretty much every weekday morning to make sure I get that time for my brain to decompress and allow the creativity to flow again. Ideally I would spend that time by the ocean where I can smell the salt water and listen to the waves crash but anywhere that is relatively woodsy and isn’t packed full of humans will do. Living here where I do in the land of lakes, wildlife and few people is rejuvenating for me as a designer and as a person in general. I’m definitely NOT a city person!

I work from home so I can be there for my son every day to see him off to school and get him off the bus when he comes home. My “office” is simply a desk, bookshelf and rolling cart cozily tucked into the corner of a room and filled with my favorite things. It’s not fancy but it’s bright and colorful and where all of the design magic happens.

I structure my working hours around my son’s school schedule and work 8am to 3pm on weekdays to make sure that I’m fully available to both my clients and my family.

I have a HUGE crush on Japan. I love its food. Its history is fascinating. I love Japanese design and minimalism. If that’s not enough to love, Japan’s people are all so beautiful. Plus have you ever listened to a conversation in Japanese? I also love the language. See? Such a massive crush on Japan! If I could take a vacation anywhere I’d go there (and I might never go home again).

Super-introverted, living on the edge of being a hermit, folks don’t take many vacations by nature though so I’ll probably just daydream about going instead.

Also, I love, love, LOVE anime. Did I mention that I love anime? Because, seriously, I love anime. lol

I remember the names, faces, and birthdays of people from YEARS ago. Especially their faces. I still remember that my best elementary school friend’s birthday was October 16, 1983 and I haven’t talked to her in over two decades now. I’ve learned to stop saying hi to people who I recognize from long ago because it seems like no one’s memory is as long as mine is. People look at me like I’m some kind of crazy stalker for knowing them.

I’m an avid Minecrafter and play with my son and husband on our own custom modded LAN server.

I call myself wifey to an awesome man named Gary. We’ve been together since September 2010, although it kind of seems like he has always been there. We had been friends for a few years before and I think we had been in love with each other for a long time before either of us realized it. Once we both clued in about how we actually felt about each other, things happened pretty fast and we went from first kiss to living together in just 3 days!

Fast forward a couple years and we welcomed our son Zack in December of 2012. When I was young, I wanted a lot of kids but then my son was born and I thought I’d never survive another like him. He is the definition of extra! Love him to bits and wouldn’t change him for the world though.

Gary, Zack and I share our little house, tucked in the woods of the mountain in the middle of the land of lakes, with three kitties. (A mama cat and her two kids.) We share our yard with squirrels, raccoons and about ten million mosquitoes that come for snacks every day. I could do without the mosquitoes but the squirrels and raccoons are my buddies.

I’m a yarn addict and love to knit before bed to reset my way too busy brain. It’s kind of like meditating for me. The repetitive movement of the yarn gliding over the needles empties the stress of the day from my body. You can almost see it getting all tangled up and lost in the squishiness of what I’m knitting.

As a kid I had an obsession with license plates. I kept notebook upon notebook of license plate numbers that I saw on my travels along with the make, model and color of the vehicle they were on. Yeah, I know how weird that is.

I LOVE to read and once I start a book I will devour every single word in an evening if nothing interrupts me. When I read fiction, I love psychological thrillers more than anything (much like my choices in movies). I read non-fiction as often as I read fiction. Everything from books related to my work to psychology topics and books that help me understand myself or how other people think and why they do the things they do.

I’m also an unashamed geek, sarcastic to a fault, I laugh way too hard at Dad jokes, am totally hooked on Fortnite, The Sims 4 and Pokemon Go, and I probably drink too much coffee. Oh, and I love, love, LOVE anime. Did I mention that I love anime? Because, seriously, I really love anime.
